Fire at University of Alabama burns music building

The Moody Music Hall caught fire shortly after 4 p.m. and heavy smoke could be seen for miles.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A fire broke out at the University of Alabama, as the storms moved through Alabama earlier on Sunday.

The Moody Music Hall caught fire shortly after 4 p.m. and heavy smoke could be seen for miles.

The Tuscaloosa Times reports lightning may have sparked that fire but it's still too early to tell. A spokesperson for the university told AL.com that the fire was in the building's roof but authorities also said there would likely be smoke and water damage as well.

The mayor of Tuscaloosa said on Twitter that it appeared that firefighters appeared to have saved a majority of the Million Dollar Band uniforms and instruments though it's not clear if they were at all damaged.

Tuscaloosa Fire officials said no one was inside at the time.
