ATLANTA — November marks Native American Heritage Month. To honor Native American Culture, the World’s Busiest Airport has opened a new exhibit.
The exhibit is called “This Land Calls Us Home: Indigenous Relationship with Southeastern Homelands.” Hartsfield-Jackson Airport held the grand opening for the gallery in Concourse T on Monday.
The 60-piece exhibit showcases work from 26 contemporary Native American artists. It focuses on Native American identity and experience, a release from the Atlanta airport stated.
The exhibit’s grand opening was presented by the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church in collaboration with the church’s Native American Comprehensive Plan.
“The initiative supports and amplifies Indigenous voices to promote increased public understanding of contemporary Native American identity and experience,” the release stated.
Travelers can check out the exhibit in Concourse T across from GateT14. The exhibit will be on display for the next year.
“We want people to know that Native American people are still present today. In many circles around the United States, Native American people are talked about in the past tense. And even some of our curriculum locally in the greater Atlanta area are studying some of that curriculum-- it’s in the past tense,” said Chebon Kernell with the United Methodist Church Global. “So we want people to know that the Native peoples are here today.”
