Remains found believed to be of missing north Georgia woman, GBI says

Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez was reported missing by family members on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, after she was last seen on Oct. 22, according to the GBI.

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to reflect new information on the suspect released by police.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said investigators have located the remains of a woman believed to be a 25-year-old woman reported missing a week ago in Habersham County.  A 24-year-old will face a murder charge in connection with the death of Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez, the GBI said. 

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said the discovery was made on Furniture Drive, which is close to the Walmart in Cornelia, where Rodriguez-Ramirez was last seen around on Oct. 22. The Walmart is off Furniture Drive.

Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanches, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping. He was taken to the Habersham County Detention Center, where he was denied bond.

Since then, Habersham County Police have confirmed with 11Alive that he was in the country illegally.

The last time anyone heard from her was on the same night around 9:30 p.m. via a text message, according to the Habersham County Sheriff's Office. GBI said she was reported missing by her family the next day.

Habersham County Sheriff's Office posted on social media that deputies are searching for 25-year-old Minelys Rodriguez.

The remains have been taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where a medical examiner will conduct an autopsy.

The GBI said the investigation is ongoing. Once it's complete, the GBI will hand the case over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
