ATLANTA -- Officials said a mother watched her son's final breaths as he collapsed and died on her living room floor. Now two men have been found guilty in his death.
On May 11, 2015, Atlanta police were called to reports of a fight in the 300 block of West Lake Avenue. They arrived to find eight shell casings in the parking lot and 25-year-old Warren Roseberry dead of a bullet to the chest inside his mother's home.
It all apparently began when Roseberry's cousin entered the apartment wearing colors associated with an area gang - one the family member wasn't actually a member of. That's when two members of the gang in question, 29-year-old Morio Clifton and 26-year-old Christopher Woody, assaulted the visitor.
According to information uncovered in the investigation, that's when Roseberry attempted to protect his cousin and when Clifton and Woody turned their attentions to him. Roseberry, who was also an amateur boxer managed to gain the upper hand in the fist-fight but ultimately died after the suspects pulled guns and fired several times.
A release from the Fulton County District Attorney's Office said that Roseberry was shot as he ran to his mother's apartment and died in front of her. Ultimately, it was the mother, an aunt and several witnesses that pinned the crime on both Clifton and Woody.
The two have since been found guilty of participation in street gang activity, murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
