Sen. Isakson discharged from hospital in DC, returning to Georgia

The senator is entering inpatient rehab in Marietta following a fall in his apartment which left him with four fractured ribs.

MARIETTA, Ga. — U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson was discharged from a Washington, D.C. hospital on Saturday and is headed back to Georgia, where he will enter an inpatient rehabilitation program during his recuperation.

According to his office, Isakson was admitted to George Washington University Hospital in Washington on Tuesday, July 16, after falling in his Washington apartment and suffering four fractured ribs.

A statement from the senator's office Saturday afternoon said that Isakson will continue his healing process at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where doctors will work with him on an intensive physical therapy program to both help with his recovery from the fractured ribs, as well as improve his mobility and stamina.

The senator remains in good spirits and says he is determined to face this challenge head-on.

“I’m on the mend and looking forward to fully healing my fractured ribs through intensive rehabilitation,” said Isakson. “I thank everyone who has lifted me up through prayer and well-wishes.”

Part of the challenge the senator faces with his recovery is tied to the symptoms of his Parkinson's disease, which may lead to a longer recovery process.
