GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Two employees of a metro Atlanta senior living center have been arrested and charged with stealing drugs from patients of the same facility - even those who had previously died.
On Friday, the Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad released the names of the two senior living facility employees, 39-year-old Maxey Lee McGill and 45-year-old Lewonia Sue Defevers, both of Gainesville.
Both suspects worked at the Ashton Senior Living Facility in Hall County and were arrested there around 1 p.m. the previous day. Their arrests came after an investigation that began in December of 2018 into allegations that someone was stealing drugs from the facility which offers independent and assisted living options for elderly residents.
McGill faces felony charges of possession of fentanyl and two counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance. Investigators said they found him with both hydrocodone and a vial of morphine that belonged to two patients of the facility. They also found fentanyl patches in the senior living facility employee's vehicle.
Defevers is also charged with felony possession of morphine which authorities believe belonged to a deceased patient of the facility.
McGill and Defevers were both booked into the Hall County Jail as they await a bond hearing. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities don't believe there are any outstanding arrested tied to the case.
