ATHENS, Ga. — Athens-Clarke County Police have released a sketch of the suspect they are looking for in connection with the robbery and shooting of a University of Georgia student Monday.
The suspect is also connected to another, earlier robbery. Officers believe the two may be linked.
Police said the first robbery happened off-campus at the Milledge Place Apartments. The second one, where the UGA student was shot, happened at a nearby bus stop outside of the Milledge Place community.
Police said it was the victim of the first robbery who gave police a description of the suspect. By the afternoon, Athens-Clarke Police said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was able to finish a sketch of the man they are looking for in connection to the crime.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT:
- He is a black male with medium complexion who is around 20 years old
- He either has dreads or twists in his hair. A victim also said he had a gold or silver clasp in his hair.
- He has sparse facial hair
- The suspect was driving a white Ford Mustang that has a tan convertible top (similar to the one pictured below)
A reward of $2,000 is being offered for information in this case that could help identify the suspect.
While police have not released the identity of the UGA student shot, the members of the athletics department identified as 22-year-old Tate Prezzano.
The Cambridge Lacrosse team from Cambridge High School in Milton, Georgia said in a tweet that Prezzano, a 2015 graduate of the high school, is still in stable but critical condition.
When reached for comment, the Fulton County Schools released the following statement on the situation: "We are all concerned by this alarming event. We express our sympathy to his family and the community."
11Alive's Hope Ford also spoke to the head coach of the UGA Lacross team, which Prezzano also plays for, who said the 22-year-old is doing well. The coach says he talked to Tate’s mom and dad and they said he is expected to make a full recovery.
