Spalding County explosion leaves worker injured

Authorities say the explosion occurred during the tear-down of a forklift.

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been airlifted to a local hospital after an explosion in Spalding County.

According to Spalding County Sheriff's Office Captain Dewayne Jones, the incident happened Saturday at 4026 North Expressway near Hampton - an address that appears to be Atlanta Liftruck Salvage which provides parts for forklifts.

Jones said a man was taking apart a forklift and using a torch. At some point during the deconstruction process, an explosion occurred leaving the man with significant injuries.

The man's exact condition hasn't been released and authorities haven't said specifically what caused the explosion.
