ATLANTA — The entire Apalachee High School football team was honored on Sunday night during the Atlanta Falcons game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
This comes weeks after a tragic school shooting took the lives of two teachers and two students. One of those teachers killed was also one of the school's football coaches -- Richard "Ricky" Aspinwall -- also known as Coach A.
During the coin toss, Apalachee players Favian Williford and Jason White were seen on the field as honorary captains.
And during the first quarter of the game, the entire football team was also honored as "Rise Up" by Andra Day played in the background, and they got to be seen on the jumbotron.
"I'll rise up, I'll rise like the day," the lyrics floated throughout the stadium in an anthem of perseverance. "I'll rise up, and I'll do it a thousand times again."
The Falcons previously paid tribute to the school community days after the shooting by wearing Apalachee Wildcats shirts during warmups before its Sept. 8 game. There was also a moment of silence help prior to the kickoff to honor those affected by the tragedy.
