BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — A community recovery center opens today in Barrow County which will offer students, parents and residents affected by the shooting last week at Apalachee High School services ranging from financial assistance to mental health care.
The center will be administered by the county government and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA). It will be open Monday from noon to 5 p.m., then operate Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Barrow County Leisure Services Center at 175 2nd Street in Winder.
Anyone wishing to donate to the recovery efforts and the center's operation can do so here. Right now the public is asked to donate cash only and "please refrain from donating tangible materials until specific requests are made."
"The CRC will offer a range of vital resources, including financial assistance, legal services, spiritual and mental health care," a GEMA Facebook post said. "These services are made possible through partnerships with the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the American Red Cross, the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Georgia VOAD and various faith-based organizations/houses of worship. Trained volunteers will be available on-site to assist those affected."
