WINDER, Ga. — Warrants are providing new details into the arrest of 54-year-old Colin Gray, the father of suspected Apalachee High School gunman Colt Gray, who is just 14.
The father is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
According to Colin Gray’s arrest warrant, new details reveal he knowingly supplied an AR-15-style weapon to his son Colt Gray despite “knowing he posed a danger to himself and others.”
Gray allegedly killed four people -- two students and two teachers -- and sent nine others to the hospital.
Colt Gray was a student at Apalachee High School, and he had just enrolled a few weeks earlier. He faces four charges of felony murder, and more charges could be forthcoming, the GBI said.
Both Colin and Colt made their first appearances at the Barrow County Courthouse on Friday morning, where there was no request for bond made by attorneys for either suspect.
Colin Gray rocked back and forth in court as a judge read his charges. The judge also told Colin that if they were to add together his charges, time to be served could amount to 180 years in prison.
The judge called Colt Gray back to the courtroom minutes after the initial hearing to correct an earlier misstatement that his crimes could be punishable by death. Because he’s a juvenile, the maximum penalty Colt Gray would face is life without parole.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said that Colt Gray was actually investigated in 2023 by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office after he allegedly posted online threats on the messaging site Discord containing photos of guns in a threat to commit a school shooting. The time and location were unknown.
Colt Gray was 13 years old at the time. At the time, his father, Colin Gray, said that though he had hunting guns in the house, his son did not have "unsupervised access" to them. The boy also denied making the online threats.
