A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14.

WINDER, Ga. — Funeral plans have been announced for one of the students killed last week in a school shooting in Barrow County.

A memorial service for Mason Schermerhorn will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Jefferson Civic Center. The freshman student tragically lost his life on Sept. 4 after a teenage gunman opened fire inside Apalachee High School.

The family has requested that attendees wear red to the service, as it was his favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, those who want to remember Mason are asked to make donations to the family to help support them as they continue to grieve. An online fundraiser has been set up to assist the Schermerhorn family. To donate, visit here.
