WINDER, Ga. — In the game of life, the Apalachee High School football team's record holds strong: undefeated.
Those were the sentiments echoed by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as he spent parts of several days with the Wildcats football team in the aftermath of a deadly shooting that left two students and two teachers dead.
The Rock visited with the football team days before their first home game against Jackson County High School. He invited the Apalachee High team to a movie set in Atlanta for a surprise visit.
Assistant coach Richard Aspinwall was one of the four victims who was sadly killed in the shooting that rocked the Winder community on Sept. 4 -- a death that left the football team in immense pain.
As the students gathered inside of a building waiting on the surprise, they all erupted in cheering when Johnson walked in. It was a moment of joy and a distraction of the pain the team had endured as they worked on recovering and healing.
"This was a life-changing experience for me because I got lucky. I got lucky and blessed by God and by the universe that I was able to meet these kids," Johnson said in the video. "Apalachee High and Apalachee High football team -- I can't imagine what these kids are going through."
The Rock shared some motivational messages with the team and attended their first home game back at Apalachee High School on Oct. 5.
