Sports betting: Is Georgia leaving money on the field?

States across the country are racing to legalize sports gambling... except Georgia.

2018 will go down as a record year for sports gambling.

A study commissioned by the American Gaming Association looked at all 50 states and found Georgia could bring in nearly $30 million in tax revenue. The same study said 3,300 people would be put to work with sports betting.

Keep in mind, there's a good chance a lot of that money could be going to the HOPE Scholarship.

So, will we see sports betting in Georgia?

So far, no one in the state legislature has pre-filed a bill to legalize gambling. Governor-elect Brian Kemp has spoken out against sports betting in the past.

And when Falcons owner Arthur Blank - arguably the most powerful sports man in the state - was asked if he was in favor of sports betting, he told 11Alive's Alex Glaze, "not right now."

That makes us 0 for 3. So don't count on a giant windfall of cash.
