TIFTON, Ga. — Bryce Johnson, a district attorney for a circuit covering four counties in south Georgia, has died according to statements released by state leaders.
Johnson was the DA for the Tifton Judicial Circuit, which is comprised of Tift, Worth, Turner and Irwin counties.
Gov. Brian Kemp released a statement early Tuesday asking Georgians to join him and his family in "praying for the family and loved ones" of Johnson.
"DA Johnson faithfully served the people of Irwin, Tift, Turner, and Worth Counties, and we are thankful for his contributions. Our thoughts and prayers are with the southwest Georgia community during this time," Gov. Kemp said.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr also mourned Johnson's passing, saying he was friends with him for 20 years.
"He was a man of integrity who had a great sense of humor, was a student of politics and knew more about Georgia high school football than anyone I have ever known," Carr's statement said. "Bryce dedicated his life to serving the community he was so proud to call home, and he was a standout District Attorney in our state."
Carr went on to say that southwest Georgia is safer thanks to Johnson's work as a district attorney, "and we're all better for having known him."
"Please continue to pray for his family and all those who loved him," Carr said.
Johnson leaves behind a wife and young son.
