HART COUNTY, Ga. — A crash Monday night near the Georgia-South Carolina state line resulted in an hourslong cleanup of diesel fuel, including some spilling into Lake Hartwell.
The incident happened on I-85 in Hart County, according to Georgia State Patrol, and involved a single tractor trailer that went out of control when the front passenger tire "malfunctioned."
The truck "traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway and the passenger's side struck a guardrail face," a GSP statement said.
GSP added: "The northbound right lane of Interstate 85 was closed for almost three hours for multiple Hazmat units to clear approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel from the bridge and the excess that spilled into Lake Hartwell."
It was not clear how much of the excess spilled into the lake.
The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
