ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. — An adult driver and 16-year-old were killed Monday in a crash in Elbert County, with three other children in that same car taken to a hospital for injuries.

Seven people in all were involved in the crash, as two people in the other car were also injured.

Two of the three children who were hospitalized had injuries considered life-threatening, the Georgia State Patrol said.

According to GSP, a 1999 Chevy Silverado was traveling north on GA-17 at Jones Ferry Road "when it crossed the center line, rotated counterclockwise, and was struck on the right side by a 20212 Ford F-150 that was traveling south."

The adult driver and 16-year-old passenger in the Silverado were pronounced deceased at the scene. GSP said two other children in the Silverado, a 6-year-old and 2-week old, were flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 4-year-old also in the Silverado was taken to Elberton Memorial Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. The two people in the F-150 were taken to that hospital also with injuries not considered life-threatening.

"The Georgia State Patrols Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation," GSP said.

There was no additional word on Tuesday morning about the status of the 6-year-old and 2-week-old who were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
