HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. — A wreck Monday morning at the Alabama-Georgia border killed multiple people, the Troup County Sheriff's Office said.
There were no immediate details on how the wreck occurred or how many people might have died or were injured. The sheriff's office said a "multi-fatality" wreck had occurred in Alabama, just past the state line.
Georgia Department of Transportation traffic information showed it happened just northeast of Shawmut, Alabama, across the state border from Harris County.
The Troup Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that traffic is being diverted off I-85 at Exit 6 and re-routing onto the interstate again at Exit 77 in Alabama.
"This also means Exit 2 is closed. A detailed alternate route is not being posted however the most logical route would be using Highway 29 (West Point Road) which will ultimately lead to traffic backups on that road. Expected clear time is 12 PM according to the latest update," the Facebook post said. "We will update as we hear further."
