ATLANTA — Another weekend and another round of strong thunderstorms possible.
There has been an encouraging change from previous forecasts, as the entire state of Georgia has been removed from any of risk categories.
That being said, strong storms are still possible.
Here's what we are looking at for this weekend...
Saturday evening or overnight
The timing of these strong storms at this point is a little tricky. Storms may arrive as early as Saturday evening or even later after midnight into early Sunday morning.
One thing we do know is that it will be very windy Saturday night, especially across far northern Georgia where a wind advisory isn't out of the question. Gusts up to 35 mph, outside of thunderstorms, are possible.
Since it will be so windy, storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts are the greatest concern
Northwest Georgia is the favored area to see strong storms.
A line of storms looks to approach northwest Georgia then gradually weaken as it moves into the Atlanta metro.
Since the timing of storm arrival isn't very certain at this point, the location and level of severe weather threat are also subject to change too. We'll keep you informed on the latest forecast and any changes.
Sunday
As the storms move further south they may restrengthen Sunday afternoon and evening south of I-20. But the good news is, the severe weather threat overall is still low. Main concern again will be damaging wind gusts.
Next week
In true severe weather season form, which is what we are in currently, we're also monitoring the threat for severe weather Thursday evening into Friday morning.
It's too early to get into many details at this point, just want to make sure you are keeping track of the forecast.
