Teen accused of firing pellet gun at small children at DeKalb school arrested

The teen suspect was captured in North Carolina.

DURHAM, N.C. — A teenager accused of opening fire on small children with a pellet gun in DeKalb County has been caught in another state.

Authorities with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a 14-year-old has been captured in Durham, North Carolina several days after the incident near Stone Mountain left 10 students hurt.

That incident happened on April 25 at Wynbrooke Elementary School and by April 30 authorities had a warrant for the teen's arrest.

Investigations that included the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and the DeKalb County Schools Police revealed that the suspect was hiding out in Durham. Soon the police department there was notified and they took the suspect into custody.

He now awaits extradition back to Georgia where he will be held in a youth detention center on felony charges of aggravated assault with a weapon. A motive hasn't yet been released.
