ATLANTA -- The man accused of shooting an Atlanta lawyer in broad daylight missed his first court appearance because he was found chewing at his left arm in a padded cell.

An incident report from the Fulton County Jail shows that a guard found Raylon Browning biting his arm and spitting blood out of his mouth Tuesday night.

The report indicates a second guard dressed in a yellow hazmat suit wrestled Browning, 39, to the ground. When Browning refused to stop resisting, he was stunned one time then allowed guards to handcuff him.

Browning was arrested April 3 in Cobb County hours after 40-year-old Trinh Huynh was shot to death walking across Peachtree Street.

Browning was initially wanted for attacking two former coworkers with a knife at a worksite at 1180 Peachtree Street on April 2. The Atlanta detective on that aggravated assault case recognized Browning as the suspect from surveillance videos of Monday morning’s shooting.

Before the self-mutilation incident at the jail Tuesday night, while still in handcuffs and leg shackles in the intake area, guards report Browning attacked another inmate punching him several times. Guards used a Taser on Browning at that time and charged him with simple battery.

Browning was treated for the injuries to his arm and returned to Fulton County Jail. His first court appearance is scheduled or Thursday at 11 a.m.

Browning now faces felony charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of simple battery.

So far, Atlanta police have not released a motive in Huynh’s shooting.
