Atlanta considered itself the best spot for the new Amazon headquarters, but now that we didn't land the deal, what's next for this massive hole in the middle of downtown?
From history to culture, entertainment to colleges, the city of Atlanta did its best to present Amazon with the best of what the city has to offer. But, it didn't work.
While the 40-acre eyesore across from Mercedes-Benz stadium is still empty, it's getting a multi-billion dollar makeover.
A new deal was approved earlier this month. Hotels, shops, restaurants are expected to fill that massive area, but not without concerns over the cost to taxpayers.
Former UN Ambassador Andrew Young supports the prospective development, pointing out that Georgia 400, MARTA, and even the Olympics faced similar controversy.
"We put on the Olympics without taxpayer money, we raised $2.5 billion privately," Young told the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Amazon's loss is certainly someone else's gain as the project moves forward.
Young says, "it's going to help everybody. Everybody in the city will benefit."
