Third suspect arrested in connection to 1-year-old's overdose death

They found the Decatur resident hiding in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A third person has been arrested in connection to the death of a 1-year-old who allegedly died after overdosing earlier this year.

Authorities found and arrested Roderick Knight, 55, Tuesday, on warrants charging him with second degree felony murder and felony second degree child cruelty. They found the Decatur resident hiding in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

Rachelle Rattrey, 24, and Tabares Tony Wadley, 26, had already been jailed in connection to the child's death.

The investigation began after a 911 call on March 28 reported that the 1-year-old was found making gurgling noises and foaming at the mouth.

First responders arrived at the home on Bermuda Run Court to find the child unresponsive. The baby ultimately died and a toxicology report revealed that the child had ingested 34 times the amount of oxycodone typically prescribed for an adult.

A search warrant in March later revealed numerous prescription drug containers on the floor of the home and a small amount of marijuana. Officers also found several prescription containers for Xanax, oxycodone, and ibuprofen scattered throughout the home.

Investigators eventually secured arrest warrants for both Wadley and Rattrey on June 25. The two were finally arrested on July 9 by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office fugitive unit.

They are now in jail facing charges of felony second-degree murder, felony second-degree child cruelty and misdemeanor violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

Meanwhile, Knight is awaiting extradition from Louisiana to DeKalb County, Georgia, where he will be booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
