Georgia company recalls mustard greens sold in several states

The product was sold in Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

GEORGIA, USA — A Georgia farm issued a recall for its homegrown mustard greens due to a Listeria contamination on Monday. 

Baker Farms recalled its curly mustard greens sold in Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. 

The product was distributed to stores on Nov. 5 through Nov. 9.

According to the recall notice, the Texas Department of State Health Services tested the product, which came up positive for Listeria. The mustard greens were sold in clear plastic bags. 

The FDA has not reported any illnesses yet.

How do you tell if your product is contaminated?

Here's what you should look for to determine if your batch of mustard greens is contaminated. Your product must match the following to be included in the recall:

  • The product has the Baker Farms Curly Mustard brand label and is 16 ounces in size. 
  • According to the recall notice, the product's best-by date is November 21, 2024. Its UPC code is "8 13098 02018 4."
  • Lastly, the LOT code is "bak144-6806."

"The best-by date and production code are located on the front of each package," according to the recall notice.

What to do if you were impacted?

Baker Farms is asking customers who purchased the products not to consume them and to either return them for a full refund or discard them.

Customers with questions for the company can call (844) 761-2244, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

What are the symptoms of Listeria?

Listeria can be severe and sometimes fatal for younger children, older people and those with weakened immune systems.

Some symptoms are listed below: 

  • Fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiffness
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
