ATLANTA -- There's a portion of the Fox Theatre rarely seen. The underbelly of the facility is not open to the public. It's an area where staff members claim they sometimes mingle with resident ghosts.
For the first time, the theater is hosting tours of the hauntings.
Staff members believe there is a Confederate soldier, a woman of the house and a little girl who occupy the theatre's basement in the afterlife. In the boiler room maintenance worker Buddy Thompson believes he has sensed the ghost of a former employee known as "Roosevelt." He slept on a cot, keeping the Fox warm in the winter until he died in 1945.
"They don't like the upgrades to the building. Then we get so many different guests in here," Thompson said.
Thompson believes there are several ghosts haunting the theater, and he thinks only one of them is bad. That ghost is believed to slam doors, move chairs and lower the temperature in the room.
"You can believe what you want but we've all experienced it here," Thompson said.
The Fox Theatre Ghost Light Tours will be held on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They start at 7 p.m. and run every twenty minutes until 10 p.m. The Ghost Light Tours will take guests in to the basement, boiler room, the theatre hospital and backstage.
11Alive's Jeremy Campbell took went on a preview of the Ghost Light Tours. He found himself alone in the basement, shooting video in the boiler room of the Fox. That's when his camera recorded a strange sound. Ghost? Creaking pipe? Someone upstairs playing a prank? That's for you to decide.
