Here's what time the solar eclipse will begin and peak in Georgia today

While Georgia is not within the path of totality, offering the very best eclipse views, we should still be in for a pretty good show.

ATLANTA — Monday afternoon will provide you a chance to see a total solar eclipse that won't come back around for another 20 years -- and accordingly the nation is buzzing with anticipation.

While Georgia is not within the path of totality, offering the very best eclipse views, we should still be in for a pretty good show as the forecast for cloud cover has improved.

Of course, the main question becomes: When should you put on your eclipse glasses and look to the sky?

Here's the timeline for this afternoon.

What time is the solar eclipse in Georgia?

Here's the short version of the answer.

  • The eclipse will begin at 1:45 p.m. in Georgia
  • The eclipse will peak at roughly 3:04 p.m. in Georgia
  • The eclipse will end around 4:21 p.m. in Georgia

As you can see, the max eclipse locally will be about 80-85% at that 3:04 p.m. mark. So while it starts at 1:45 p.m. this afternoon, you'll have a little time to get ready to look to the sky when the peak arrives about an hour and 20 minutes later.
