ATLANTA — An international DJ says he will no longer be performing in Atlanta Super Bowl weekend.
Just weeks before he was set to DJ Feb. 1 at Opera nightclub in Midtown, Zedd tweeted he would be canceling the planned show.
"Hey guys. I’m sorry I will no longer be performing at Opera Atlanta on February 1st," he posted, offering no further explanation about why.
According to details from the DJ's website and Facebook page, he was scheduled to play at the nightclub from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m., Saturday. The date was still posted as of the time this article was published.
The news of the cancellation comes a few days after reports of a woman's alleged assault at the nightclub that was streamed over Facebook Live. In the series of videos, the alleged victim is shown dancing with a man when she was allegedly assaulted in the middle of the nightclub. She can be heard saying “somebody help me.”
Atlanta Police told 11Alive their Special Victims Unit investigators are looking into the claims and that an investigation has been opened.
While Zedd has not officially said the reported assault prompted him to cancel his appearance, comments under his tweet applauded him for "standing up for what is right!"
Opera Atlanta's management issued the following statement about the alleged sexual assault:
"At this time we have met with the Atlanta Police Department and have provided them everything they have requested. We will continue to aid and support their investigation in any way we can," The Opera posted. "We have been asked to defer any further questions to the Atlanta Police Department Public Affairs Unit."
Meanwhile, Zedd added that he was looking forward to coming back to Atlanta "ASAP."
