The young son of former Georgia Southern and Chicago Bears standout Adrian Peterson has died after a battle with cancer.

Peterson posted the news on his Facebook page early Tuesday, writing:

"‪#‎Ajsoars‬ is in Heaven, where he belongs... ‪#‎ajsoar‬ ‪#‎P3‬‪#‎MyFirstSuperHero‬"

Back in June, AJ Peterson, then 6, was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in his brain steam, NBC Chicago reports.

Adrian posted a picture with his son on June 27.

A Facebook page called AJ Soars, Prayers for AJ chronicled the young boy's battle. A.J.'s funeral will be Saturday in Kingsland, GA. The family says flowers can be sent to:

Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church
1365 Kinlaw Rd
Kingsland, GA 31548

Peterson played for Georgia Southern from 1998-2001 and then spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.
