Surge in registration for AJC Peachtree Road Race

Signups will end June 15, interest highest since 2019

ATLANTA — Due to a surge in signups, the Atlanta Track Club announced Wednesday that it will close registration for the 55th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race on June 15.

"We have seen the biggest surge in interest in the Peachtree since the 50th running in 2019," ATC CEO Rich Kenah said. "The COVID years were rough. But we've seen in the last 12 months people more and more interested in coming together."

The annual race takes place on July 4. The popular 10K race begins at Lenox Square Mall and ends in Piedmont Park. The Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo, presented by Publix, will take place on July 2-3 at the Georgia World Congress Center Hall C4.

"We're excited to see that all of the people who used to do Peachtree are coming back," Kenah said. "We will be the world's largest 10K again this year."

Kenah also said that younger people are finding out about the race, which helped boost the interest and registration levels.

This year’s race will honor the "Original 110," the pioneers who completed the inaugural Peachtree on July 4, 1970. Beginning at the old Sears parking lot on the corner of Peachtree and Roswell Road, 150 runners embarked on a journey through Atlanta to Central City Park (now Woodruff Park in Downtown Atlanta), with 110 finishing, earning them their iconic designation. This year, some of the Original 110 will again compete.

The 55th running will also feature several firsts, including a festive finish area with carnival games and an Adidas Finish Line Experience. Participants wearing Adidas shoes on race day will be rewarded with a special prize and an entry into an exclusive raffle.

In another first, the Microsoft Peachtree Junior will be free for all participants in 2024, courtesy of Microsoft. This initiative is part of a broader effort to make athletic and educational opportunities accessible to all children. The Microsoft Peachtree Junior is scheduled for July 3 and offers the chance for young participants to cross the same 10th Street finish line at Piedmont Park that will be used for the Peachtree the next day.

The current registration cost for non-members of Atlanta Track Club is $70. That price will increase as race day nears, with entry granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Atlanta Track Club members are guaranteed entry until the race's capacity is reached, guaranteed placement in Wave M or earlier and will pay $45 throughout the registration period.
