ATLANTA — Today, Independence Day, Christmas and Valentine's Day collided at the starting line of the 55th AJC Peachtree Road Race with a special proposal.
If you've run the Peachtree in recent years, you might've seen Mr. and Mrs. Claus running too. But, they actually aren't married - yet! Today, Mr. Claus got down on one knee and asked Mrs. Claus to marry him. And she said yes!
Torrie Griffin and his now fiancée Stacey Miller are part of a tradition of dressing up in costume - rather than typical running clothes - for the Peachtree. They have brought Christmas-in-July cheer to the race for the last four years. Now, they get to spend the rest of their holidays bringing joy to each other.
11Alive's Aisha Howard was with the couple for the surprise proposal. Miller thought they were just doing a regular interview about the race, with no idea Griffin had the ring hidden in his Santa hat.
This year's race was special for another reason: Miller's dad Jim ran the Peachtree for the first time! According to Griffin, Jim pulled through a few health emergencies this year to make it to the world's largest 10K and his daughter's special day.
