ATLANTA — The AJC Peachtree Road Race began with a code yellow alert for weather conditions.
Just after 9:30 a.m. that was elevated to code red because of the heat and humidity. Red indicates dangerous conditions.
Participants will need to slow down, even walk. The key is to take in plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

When the race started, the temperature was 78 but by 9:30 it rose to 81.
Right now, there is also a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Independence Day afternoon.
