Here's where you can tailgate for the 2024 Georgia vs. Texas SEC Championship

ATLANTA — Heads up, tailgaters! If you are heading to the Georgia vs. Texas SEC Championship game at Mercedez-Benz Stadium on Saturday and plan on tailgating before the game, here's what you need to know. 

The game is one of the most anticipated of the season. Georgia and Texas will play each other for the second time this year, following a top 5 showdown in October. No. 2 Texas had its only season loss after the October matchup.

Where can I tailgate? 

Tailgating near Mercedes-Benz Stadium is only allowed in The Home Depot Backyard West Lawn and the M Lot.

What are the rules? 

Tailgating is only allowed 4.5 hours before the game begins. The tailgating events can continue 30 minutes after the game starts. If they continue, security will remove guests from the area. 

Oversized vehicles, such as RVs, buses and trailers, are not allowed in the tailgating area (The Home Depot Backyard).

Officials with the Mercedes-Benz Stadium also said that excessive alcohol use, including drinking games or underage drinking, is not allowed.

Here is a list of some other items or activities not allowed during the tailgating hours: 

  • Non-licensed vehicles (Golf carts, skateboards, bikes, scooters, hoverboards, segways, etc.)
  • Selling food or beverage items (no private catering companies)
  • Drones (other radio-controlled aircraft)
  • Vehicles with advertising or commercial signage are also not allowed in the lot. 
  • Charcoal grills are not allowed. Only natural gas and propane grills are allowed.

What is allowed? 

Here is a list of items and activities that are allowed only in the tailgating spaces: 

  • Speakers are allowed with restrictions (not too loud and not playing music with profanity.
  • Natural gas and propane grills. 
  • Fans are allowed to bring up to one 10' by 10' tent per parking space on the grass area and tailgate spaces if the weather allows. Groups can only have one tent. Tents should not extend beyond fire lanes and sidewalks and should not cause obstructions for staff. Tents are not allowed to be staked but can be weighed down.

Where can I park?  

Cars must be parked in the designated spaces instructed by parking team members. Vehicles can only take one space and must be parked correctly. 

There are also no reserved parking spaces. Family members cannot save parking spots for others.
