Georgia loses for first time in 2 years, falling to Alabama in SEC title once again

Alabama ended Georgia’s 29-game winning streak with a 27-24 victory.

ATLANTA — College football's most highly-anticipated matchup with No. 1 Georgia taking on No. 8 Alabama in the SEC Championship Game has come to an end with the Crimson Tide on top.

Alabama ended Georgia’s 29-game winning streak with a 27-24 victory. Fans traveled near and far to Atlanta to see the two teams face off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Before Saturday's defeat, the Bulldogs hadn't lost a game since their 2021 SEC Championship loss to the Crimson Tide. 

UGA was hoping to win a second SEC crown in a row. But now the conversation turns to what will happen next as the Bulldogs want to repeat the success of the last two seasons to claim a third straight national championship.

7:25 p.m. | FINAL: Alabama 27-24 | Georgia loses for the first time in two years, as they once again cannot overcome the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game. UGA is now 0-4 against Alabama all-time in SEC titles.

7:13 p.m. | Alabama 27-24 | Kendall Milton scores his second touchdown of the game, as he scores from the 1 on a pivotal 4th & Goal. The missed field goal by Woodring earlier is looming large.

7:05 p.m. | Alabama 27-17 | Alabama running back Roydell Williams punches it in from 1 yard out, and Alabama extends the lead with under six minutes to go.

6:53 p.m. | Alabama 20-17 | After a 15-yard completion to Ladd McConkey got the Dawgs down to the Alabama 1, Carson Beck sneaked it home for the TD and the Dawgs are just down by three.

6:45 p.m. | Georgia gets a massive spark as Anthony Evans III returns the Alabama punt 28 yards to the Alabama 35, setting up Georgia in excellent field position.

6:36 p.m. | Alabama 20-10 | UGA's defense stands strong and forces Alabama to a 28-yard field goal.

6:31 p.m. | Carson Beck fumbles on some trickeration in the Georgia backfield and Alabama recovers at the UGA 11.

6:16 p.m. | Alabama 17-10 | Kicker Peyton Woodring knocks one home from 34 yards away.

6:10 p.m. | The Dawgs get a much-needed chunk play as Carson Beck completes a 51-yard pass to wide receiver Arian Smith, and UGA is inside the red zone, trailing by 10.

6:04 p.m. | A Georgia three-and-out and an Alabama three-and-out is how the second half of the SEC Championship begins.

5:31 p.m. | END OF FIRST HALF | Alabama leads Georgia at the end of the first half 17-7.

5:27 p.m. | Alabama leads 17-7 | QB Jalen Milroe finds former UGA receiver Jermaine Burton in the back of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown strike.

5:11 p.m. | After Carson Beck was sacked on third down. UGA was forced to kick a 45-yard field goal. A false start moved them back five yards, and kicker Peyton Woodring missed the 50-yard field goal off the right upright.

4:58 p.m. | Alabama leads 10-7 | Jalen Milroe finds running back Jam Miller on a wheel route for a 28-yard touchdown to put the Tide on top in the second quarter.

4:50 p.m. | END OF Q1 | The Dawgs lead the Tide 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

4:38 p.m. | Georgia leads 7-3 | Alabama kicker Will Reichard knocked home a 43-yard field goal to put Alabama on the board. Reichard broke the FBS record for most points scored in FBS history with the kick.

4:25 p.m. | The Georgia defense looks dominant early, forcing back-to-back three-and-outs on the Tide offense.

4:19 p.m. | Georgia leads 7-0 | The Dawgs strike first! Running back Kendall Milton takes it the house from 17 yards out and UGA leads early.

4:14 P.M. | Georgia won the toss and elected to defer. After Alabama received the opening kickoff, the Tide went three-and-out as QB Jalen Milroe was sacked by UGA linebacker Jalon Walker.

3:45 p.m. | In pre-game warmups, 11Alive's UGA insiders at Rivals spotted Bowers and McConkey warming up with their positional groups. Anthony Dasher said that Bowers and McConkey are both expected to play and that wide receiver RaRa Thomas appears as if he will be out on Saturday.
