ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs snagged the No. 7 national seed spot and will host the 2024 NCAA Athens Baseball postseason regional tournament, according to the university sports department.

Georgia Sports announced that they will host the Athens Regional on Sunday. The event will be held at Foley Field from Friday, May 31, to Monday, June 3.

The three other teams that will join the Bulldogs at the Athens Regional are Georgia Tech, UNC-Wilmington and Army, which was announced on Monday.

On Monday, Georgia was also announced as the No. 7 national seed, which means that if they win the Athens Regional, they will host a Super Regional.

“You look at our total body of work, and I am not on the committee and not here to say that somebody shouldn't have got it or should have got it somewhere else, but I felt pretty good about our resume," said Georgia's Ike Cousins head baseball Wes Johnson on the Bulldogs earning the No. 7 national seed. “There are a lot of things you look at. We did some good stuff this year, this regular season."

The Bulldogs will host a regional alongside Tennessee, which won the SEC tournament, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Arkansas.

According to the university's sports department, the Bulldogs will open against the Army on Friday, May 31, starting at 1 p.m. at Foley Field. Those who would like to watch the game can do so on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

UNC-Willmington and Georgia Tech, which is the No. 3 seed, will face off on Friday, May 31 at 7 p.m.  Georgia Tech will make its 35th appearance in the NCAA Tournament; this will be fourth in the last five years, the school said in the news release. The Jackets are 77-69 all-time in the tournament and is 69-58 all-time in the first-round, regional action.

As for Georgia, officials said it will be its first time hosting since 2019 and its 14th appearance in the NCAA Regional, which is its first since 2022.

The university sports department said the Bulldogs went to the College World Series in 2008 and finished as national runner-ups. The Bulldogs have also won six regional titles and four super regional championships and made six trips to the College World Series. It's a top-eight national seed for the sixth time in its school's history.

According to the university, the winner of the Athens Regional will advance to the best-of-three Super Regional, which will be held at eight different sites.

After clearing the No. 7 national seed, the Bulldogs must win the regional to advance and be one step closer to the College World Series. If they win their regional, the Super Regional will be held in Athens on June 7-9 or 8-10.

The 16 regional winners advance to the best-of-three super regionals, and those eight winners go to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, beginning June 14.
