A judge signed off on a motion to dismiss the charges on Aug. 7.

ATHENS, Ga. — UPDATE: 11Alive learned on Aug. 14, 2024 that reckless driving charges against Sacovie White have been dropped. The solicitor general in Athens Clarke County recently filed paperwork asking for it to be dismissed, sayin that "after careful review of the evidence... it is clear that the state will not be able to prove reckless driving beyond a reasonable doubt."

The solicitor general also wanted to dismiss the remaining citation for driving the wrong way on a one-way. A judge signed off on it on Aug. 7

A police report provides details about what led to the arrest of another University of Georgia football player over the weekend.

According to an Athens-Clarke County Police report, UGA freshman Wide Receiver Sacovie White was arrested last Saturday. He was charged with reckless driving and one-way roadway. Jail records show that he was released on a $26 bail.

The incident happened in Athens on May 18, shortly before 2 a.m. The police report states that White allegedly drove down the wrong way on E. Clayton Street in front of several bars, where there were many pedestrians.

The police report also alleges White was driving at a "high speed," and one of his passengers was partially outside the vehicle.

According to the police report, an officer caught up with White, taking him into custody and to the county jail.

The Georgia football program has been under scrutiny for multiple driving-related arrests ever since the crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and UGA staffer Chandler LeCroy in January 2023.

Back in March, UGA football head coach Kirby Smart addressed one of those arrests: Georgia football running back Trevor Etienne, who was arrested for DUI.

"As we also know, sometimes kids don’t make the best decisions," Smart previously said. "The older you get, sometimes, the tougher the consequences of your mistakes are."
