The former University of Georgia recruiting staffer involved in the 2023 accident that killed another staffer and a UGA Bulldogs player is asking for $5 million in damages in a lawsuit she recently updated.
Victoria S. "Tory" Bowles filed against UGA football player Jalen Carter, the estate of fellow staffer Chandler LeCroy and a business tied to Carter, claiming that reckless driving and racing led to the crash that killed LeCroy and UGA player Devin Willock on Jan. 15, 2023.
Bowles' lawyers and the university filed a joint motion to dismiss their first lawsuit back in September, stating that she would "continue to seek justice in relation to her life altering injuries against Jalen Carter, his LLC, and Ms. LeCroy’s estate."
The new filing, submitted in Gwinnett County on Oct. 31, amends Bowles' original lawsuit, which she initially filed in July. The lawsuit claims Bowles suffered "severe and lasting injuries" in the crash, which happened when LeCroy’s SUV, allegedly racing against Carter’s Jeep, reached speeds over 100 mph before losing control.
Bowles’ updated complaint said both Carter and LeCroy acted negligently, making them responsible for her injuries.
According to the lawsuit, Bowles’ injuries include spinal fractures, a collapsed lung, and other long-term complications. Her legal team says LeCroy ignored Bowles’ warnings about the vehicle’s dangerous speed before the crash.
The lawsuit also alleges that Carter briefly left the scene after the crash and only returned when a UGA football staff member asked him to return.
