ATLANTA β Georgia Tech special teams coach Ricky Brumfield is no longer with the program, the school announced on Tuesday.
No reason for the departure was given in a brief release. The school statement said senior advisor to the head coach Tim Salem will "assume the role of coordinating the Yellow Jackets' special teams."
According to Associated Press reporting, Tech head coach Brent Key had been critical of the Yellow Jackets' struggles on special teams.
When responding to a question last week that suggested special teams was "kind of" a problem, Key said, "There's no kind of," and added: "there has been nothing special."
In his own statement posted on X, Brumfield addressed Yellow Jackets fans. He described making a "difficult decision to step away from my position."
"Thank you for making Atlanta our home for the past two seasons. We have loved working with the university, the community, the players, the coaches and the fans," the statement said. "...I am truly appreciate for the opportunity to help our student-athletes achieve greatness on and off the field, and couldn't be more excited to see this team finish the season strong."
The coach added: "As our time with Georgia Tech comes to an end, my family and I want to thank you all for the support. Go Yellow Jackets!"
