JONESBORO, Ga. — A marching band in Georgia found themselves thrust onto the national stage, sharing the spotlight with none other than Usher in Apple Music's Super Bowl commercial.
The Jonesboro High School Majestic Marching Cardinals band director Lynel Goodwin said the momentous opportunity was the result of a call from a casting director over the winter school break.
"'We got a big opportunity coming in. Can't tell you much right now, but kind of need you to come to the school,'" Goodwin said, remembering the call. "And so they came in or whatnot, and we started practicing. And then, on the first day of actual practice, I told the students who came in exactly what was going on."
The students were shocked and excited.
"He told us what this was for, and it was jaw-dropping," one band member said.
Representing not only their school but also the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia, the band members embraced the chance to showcase their skills on such a large platform.
"They know what they want," Goodwin said. "They've tasted success, and they can't get enough of it."
With just two days to prepare, the Majestic Marching Cardinals wasted no time in getting ready for the shoot, which took place at Underground Atlanta. Despite the short notice, the students poured their hearts into every step and note.
"The kids were doing splits on steps," Goodwin said. "It was absolutely insane."
Since its debut, the commercial has been on rotation as it's become a source of pride for the students and their families. Seeing themselves on screen alongside a music legend like Usher has been a surreal experience.
"That's really me," another student said. "I would like, go back five seconds. Oh, there go me again. That's me."
Looking ahead, the future seems even brighter for the Majestic Marching Cardinals. Their next endeavor? A performance at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. But, to make this dream a reality, they need support. Currently, they are raising funds for the trip, eager to represent their school and community on yet another prestigious stage.

"There is more to life than the four walls of Jonesboro High School," Goodwin said. "They can take their talents far and beyond. Just seeing that light bulb go off in our kid's heads is why I do what I do, and it helps me sleep so well at night."
For the Majestic Marching Cardinals, the Super Bowl commercial was just the beginning. With each performance, they continue to captivate audiences and inspire others with their talent, dedication and unwavering spirit.
