ATLANTA — When the 30 golfers in the TOUR Championship field tee off at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Thursday, they will be vying for not only the FedEx Cup Championship -- but also a record prize money payout.
Some golfers have an advantage toward getting the ultimate goal -- a record-setting $25 million first-place prize -- due to the fact that the TOUR Championship starts golfers with a certain score to par based on their season play.
The PGA Tour is handing out $100 million for the FedEx Cup, which will be split based on finishing position for all 30 golfers in the field. The prize money breakdown for each finishing position looks like this. If players are tied, the money will be split equally between them:
