The Georgia State Panthers are putting together the best season in the program's short history under first-year head coach Shawn Elliott.
The Panthers defeated Texas State 33-30 on Saturday to win their sixth game this season and officially become bowl eligible.
It's just the second time in history the Panthers will play in a bowl game. Trent Miles led the team to the AutoNation Cure Bowl in 2015, but the Panthers lost to San Jose State. Miles was let go after last season, and Elliott came in from South Carolina where he was the offensive line coach.
The Panthers are 6-3 this season and 5-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Sun Belt teams receive bids to five bowl games: the New Orleans Bowl, Dollar General Bowl, Camellia Bowl, Cure Bowl and Arizona Bowl.
The University's first football season was in 2010.
