Dozens of girls learn skills at Hawks' 'Her Time to Play' basketball clinic

'Her Time To Play' is a national push between the NBA and WNBA to help develop young women as leaders in society.

ATLANTA — Dozens of girls got the chance to learn the fundamentals of the game thanks to a basketball clinic hosted by the Atlanta Hawks.

Organizers said more than 60 girls, ages 7 to 14, participated in the annual "Her Time to Play"  Monday morning at Northside Youth Organization in Chastain Park.

Outside of basketball techniques, the girls also learn life skills.

The Atlanta Hawks' invited guest speakers including 2x WNBA champion and Atlanta Dream guard Renee Montgomery and U.S. Women's Wheelchair Basketball National Team Athlete, Bailey Moody. Tori Miller, College Park Skyhawks Assistant General Manager attended the clinic also. The speakers empowered and inspired the young girls to challenge and develop them into stronger people.

“We are proud to organize an event where we can both champion and empower young female athletes,” said Hawks’ Vice President of Basketball Development Jon Babul. “The lessons learned from playing the sport of basketball can become a fundamental part in the development of women as tomorrow’s leaders.”

Throughout the day, the girls participated in drills. They were able to leave the clinic inspired and wanting to be better leaders on and off the court.

“I appreciate the Hawks for inviting me to be a part of this morning’s clinic,” said Montgomery. “The opportunity to share my personal story with these girls will hopefully make an impact as they continue to develop as both athletes and women.”

The Atlanta Dream will host a Her Time To Play basketball clinic on October 17 at John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club. For more information, visit AtlantaDream.Net. For more information about the Hawks' Lady Ballers program, visit Hawks.com/LadyBallers.
