Here's when the 2024 Georgia high school football season begins

We're just about two weeks away from the high school football season kicking off in the Peach State!

ATLANTA — The calendar has turned from July to August, which means this is officially the month that high school football returns in Georgia.

When does the 2024 Georgia high school football season start?

  • August 14: The first competitive games kick off with the first day of the Corky Kell Classic -- Douglass (Atlanta) vs. LaGrange (4:30 p.m.) and North Atlanta vs. Kell (7:30 p.m.).
  • August 15: The second day of the Corky Kell Classic continues with South Paulding vs. Dunwoody (4:30 p.m.) and Prince Avenue vs. West Forsyth (7:30 p.m.). Other Thursday night games include Morrow vs. Forest Park; Alcovy vs. Arabia Mountain; Cedar Shoals vs. Clarke Central; North Clayton vs. McDonough; and Booker T. Washington vs. New Manchester. There are also games in north (Dade County vs. Ringgold) and south (New Hampstead vs. South Effingham) Georgia that day.
  • August 16: Most of the state plays their first games this day, including three more Corky Kell games (Therrell vs. Hebron Christian, Callaway vs. Cass, Creekside vs. Rome).
  • August 17: Some more openers this day, including the four Corky Kell games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Walton vs. Brookwood at 10 a.m.; Alpharetta vs. Houston County at 1 p.m.; McEachern vs. North Gwinnett at 4 p.m.; Douglas County vs. Cedar Grove at 7 p.m.).
