BUFORD -- Georgia continued its pursuit of 4-star tight end Will Mallory while he took his first visit to campus.
Mallory was making the trip to the area to showcase his talents in The Opening Atlanta Regional, where he gave the update on his recruiting. Before then, the Jacksonville product headed to Athens to visit head coach Kirby Smart and tight ends coach Shane Beamer.
"It was good, we got up there Thursday to watch practice and meetings, and I toured campus on Friday," Mallory said. "We went back on Saturday for practice, and it was a lot of fun."
It was actually two separate outings to Georgia's campus for Mallory. He was asked to return for a Saturday cookout with many other highly-regarded prospects.
While visiting with the Bulldogs' coaching staff, it laid out a blueprint for how Mallory could be used with the program. At 205 pounds, the expectations resemble that of a wide receiver, potentially similar to sophomore Charlie Woerner.
"The way they're recruiting me is someone that can run the field vertically and blow the top off," Mallory said. "It's kind of what they're seeing in me. I'm not expected to come in as a 250-pound tight end and put my hand in the dirt and start blocking everyone. I liked what I saw, and it was good to talk with some of the tight ends that are there."
The Bulldogs have made their case to land Mallory and will compete with Miami and Michigan for his services. The toughest rival may be Michigan since Mallory is a legacy with the Wolverines.
His father, Mike Mallory, played defensive end in Ann Arbor. In addition, two of his uncles also spent their collegiate careers with the Wolverines. While the rising senior didn't name a leader, it is understood that Michigan could be at the top of the list.
Mallory's commitment will come in the summer, and the Bulldogs have made an impression at the very least.
"I had never been to Georgia before, never been to Athens," Mallory said. "It was good, and the campus is beautiful. You can't beat the college experience there, so I was impressed with what I'm seeing."
