The first football game in SunTrust Park history became memorable the second Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State experienced the opening kickoff.
However, it became an all-time classic roughly four hours later, after KSU had gutted out the most epic comeback victory in school history–a 60-52 triumph that needed five overtimes to settle the score.
OK, so Kennesaw State football has only been around for four years; but even 20 years from now, it will be extremely hard to eclipse the greatness of Saturday's win.
For example:
**The Owls (10-1 overall), the No.2-ranked team in FCS play, were playing for an elite-level seed in the upcoming NCAA playoffs (venue host).
**Jacksonville State entered the day ranked No. 7 nationally.
**J-State sprinted to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, quickly putting a damper on this highly anticipated clash (for FCS fans, at least). This would require a 60-point outburst for KSU eventually corralling the victory.
**There will never be another 'first football game' at SunTrust Park.
As such, the fans were treated to a one-of-a-kind show that actually surpassed the hype.
Regarding the game ...
Quarterback Chandler Burks–likely the greatest player in Kennesaw State history–enjoyed a starring role in the comeback, accounting for 169 total yards (95 rushing) and five touchdowns.
But he wasn't the only KSU playmaker collecting multiple scores on the day.
Tailbacks Darnell Holland (106 total yards) and TJ Reed (78 total yards) racked up two touchdowns apiece, while helping Kennesaw State amass 35 cumulative points for the fourth quarter and overtime.
