4-star safety from Atlanta commits to UGA over Georgia Tech, NC State

Jontae Gilbert, a four-star safety from Douglass High School in Atlanta, made his decision on Saturday at 2 p.m.

ATLANTA — A highly-ranked college football recruit right here in Atlanta made his college football future known on Saturday.

Jontae Gilbert, a four-star safety from Douglass High School in Atlanta, made his decision on Saturday at 2 p.m. between Georgia, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. His commitment was streamed live on 11Alive's YouTube page.

Gilbert, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety and class of 2025 graduate, was previously committed to Ohio State University for a year before decommitting in July of last year.

According to 11Alive's UGA insiders at Rivals, Gilbert's chances of picking UGA were greater than that of Tech and NC State, which are at 67%. However, several recruiting analysts at Rivals have each predicted that Gilbert will pick each school, meaning his decision is truly up in the air.

Two of Gilbert's Douglass High School teammates also made their commitments on Saturday at the same time despite already making their verbal commitments known. Offensive tackle Xavier Canales has committed to Georgia Tech, and safety Elijah Hunter has committed to Georgia State.
