ATLANTA — ESPN has announced the nominees for the 2024 ESPYS presented by Capital One, and several athletes with ties to Georgia and Atlanta are among the top contenders.
The star-studded event, hosted by Serena Williams, will air live on Thursday, July 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Fan voting is now open on ESPYS.com.
- Coco Gauff, who hails from Atlanta, has earned nominations in two categories. The Olympian is up for Best Athlete, Women’s Sports and Best Tennis Player. This makes her first nomination for Best Athlete, Women’s Sports, recognizing her remarkable achievements on the tennis court over the past year.
- Ronald Acuña Jr., a key player for the Atlanta Braves, has been nominated for Best MLB Player. Despite facing significant injuries in recent seasons, Acuña’s resilience and outstanding performance this year have earned him a spot among the top nominees.
- Jaylen Brown, originally from Marietta, Georgia, has been nominated for Best Championship Performance. Brown, who plays for the Boston Celtics, has been recognized for his significant contributions during the NBA playoffs.
The 2024 ESPYS will celebrate the year's highlight moments and honor leading athletes and performances across various sports. This year's top nominees include Simone Biles, Caitlin Clark, Patrick Mahomes, Shohei Ohtani and Max Verstappen.
In addition to the main awards, the ceremony will feature the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, and the Pat Tillman Award for Service, which recognize athletes who embody the spirit of the ESPYS.
