ATLANTA — A rare piece of baseball history sold for thousands of dollars at an auction on Wednesday.
The game-worn glove used by Atlanta Braves legend Greg Maddux in the 1995 World Series was bought for $41,094 at the Lelands 2023 Fall Classic Auction in New Jersey.
The most expensive item sold at auction was a Babe Ruth single-signed baseball, which was purchased for $137,620. Maddux's glove was the fourth-most expensive piece of memorabilia sold among the signature items.
Maddux, a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, went 1-1 in the '95 Fall Classic with a 2.25 ERA. However, it was the gem he twirled in Game 1, in which he tossed a complete game on just 95 pitches -- only the 11th time a pitcher has finished a game in under 100 pitches in World Series history. Nobody has accomplished that feat since.
Maddux won Cy Young in 1995 and the Braves went on to defeat the then-named Cleveland Indians 4-2 in the World Series to capture Atlanta's first baseball championship ever. You can see that game glove shown above on Maddux below in the '95 World Series.
