ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves announced Friday night they have traded right-handed pitcher Kyle Wright. In exchange, the team acquired Jackson Kowar from the Kansas City Royals.
Wright, 28, was selected by Atlanta with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft and went 24-16 with a 4.45 ERA (139 ER/281.1 IP) in 60 games, a release from the Braves stated.
He missed nearly the entire season dealing with shoulder issues, according to a previous Associated Press report. Wright will also likely miss all of the 2024 season after having a setback with his shoulder, the AP said.
Meanwhile, Kowar, 27, went 2-0 with a 6.43 ERA (20 ER/28.0 IP) in 23 games for the Royals this season, according to the Braves release.
He was initially drafted by Kansas City in the first round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida. Kowar debuted with the Royals in 2021.
This was the second trade for the Braves with the Royals on Friday. The team also traded right-hander Nick Anderson for cash.
