Braves walk-off Diamondbacks in thrilling finish to home opener

The Atlanta Braves won an exciting home opener over the Arizona Diamondbacks after walking them off in extra innings to win by a final of 6-5.

ATLANTA — It didn't take long for the late fireworks to erupt at Truist Park in 2024.

The Atlanta Braves won an exciting home opener over the Arizona Diamondbacks after walking them off in extra innings to win by a final of 6-5.

The Braves' offense was successful at getting runners on throughout the night, but it couldn't really break through until the ninth inning. It all started when they got some help with a leadoff error to begin the inning on an Austin Riley chopper.

The floodgates opened right after as Matt Olson laced an RBI double into the left-center field gap to make it a one-run game.

Jarred Kelenic came off the bench to pinch hit for Adam Duvall after Marcell Ozuna moved Olson over to third with a groundout.

Kelenic got jammed and popped the first pitch up behind the third base bag into shallow left field, but Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez and left-fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. convened on the ball at the last minute, and it dropped to tie the game and complete a three-run comeback.

The heroics were put on pause until the 10th inning, where Travis d'Arnaud ripped a walk-off double off the top of the left field wall to bring in pinch-runner Forrest Wall to cap off a thrilling Braves comeback win during the home opener at Truist.
