The Atlanta Braves is celebrating one of their own, but he's not a player or a coach.
They are honoring the team's longest-serving game day employee. Walter Banks has 54 years of service. He made his debut in 1965 at Atlanta Stadium. He just turned 80 years old.
The Braves surprised him with a party at The SunTrust on Up Experience in The Battery Atlanta.
“It’s just outstanding. Words just can’t express it," he said with joy. "I’m still in shock.
He was surrounded by his coworkers, family and friends at the party.
“When I was coming up, I thought all parties were at night," he said cheerfully.
"This tops all of the night parties I’ve ever been to.”
Not only was there a party, the SunTrust on up Experience featured a pop-up exhibit featuring a replica of Banks' living room during the week-long celebration.
The exhibit has Braves memorabilia that Banks has collected through the years
Banks has become a legend for Braves fans and will be commemorated with his own bobblehead.
